IN THE BAG

March 25, 2010

In November of last year, I joined a gym. This is nothing special, except when I joined this gym, they told me after I completed 20 workouts I would receive a $15 credit to their store, including drinks, apparel, etc. The kicker was that you had to complete the workouts in 2 months, which equated to 2 workouts a week. I was all…”no problem, I got this in the bag.”

I am proud and embarrassed to say that after three and a half  months, okay really almost 4, I finally completed my 20 workouts! Yea…I’m aware of how sad it is. So sad in fact that the manager gave me 2 extensions to earn my credit! I would go into the gym and the front desk would greet me and say “Oh we haven’t seen you in a while Kelly,” and I would respond with whatever excuse I had that week- which included a knee injury skiing (that lasted almost a month), hectic schedule that prevented me from coming, the holidays (holidays always work right?) and a running list of any other excuses I could come up with.

It’s all good now because I got my credit. And yesterday morning I purchased my first ever Muscle Milk (light) with that credit. I still have $12.50 to spare because you see…after three and a half months, really 4, it’s in the bag.

WEDDING: Drew+Kysha

March 21, 2010

It was the part of church service where you introduce yourself to someone next to you. But in this particular service, Drew and Kysha had the introduction of a lifetime. She was in the row in front of him. When she turned around she met…her future husband. Their romance blossomed and just a few months later they were engaged. They knew.

They knew God had brought them into each others lives. They knew they didn’t want to spend another day apart. They knew they were meant for each other.

On March 6, I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding at the Sheraton Read House in Chattanooga, TN. It was a beautiful venue and the fact that this couple is absolutely gorgeous made my job even easier.

Drew and Kysha, thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be a part of your special day. I had so much fun with you and wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I loved this moment of mom watching her daughter as she was getting ready.

This wasn’t posed! Drew was on the phone with his mom and I snapped away.Drew and Kysha decided to have a first look. I am so happy they did! This was the first time they saw each other and it allowed for us to get all their pictures done before the ceremony began.

Love it!

Kysha, you’re beautiful.

I don’t remember what was happening in this moment, but I absolutely LOVE it!

L-L-LAS VEGAS

March 16, 2010

As I boarded my flight to Las Vegas, I couldn’t help but shriek with excitement. I COULD.NOT.CONTAIN. MYSELF. I had no idea what to expect, but my expectations were set high. REALLY High. I calmed myself, reasoning that I would only be let down with such thoughts. So I relaxed, pushed my back against my seat, fastened my seat belt securely as instructed, and thought about other things. AND… moments later I was back to shrieking with excitement. It was FINALLY happening. I was going to VEGAS baby! I couldn’t be contained.

We walked through the halls of MGM grand and I was a little taken back. It was huge! There were over 14,000 photographers there for the same reason I was.  I felt so small and a little overwhelmed. As my dreams were slowly fading into reality, we walked passed a guy with a rather odd shirt on. As he passed, I looked up at his face and realized it was [b]ecker, a well known photographer I have been following for a while. Lora, being as bold as she is, calls out his name and we stop to chat. He was kind, welcoming, and most of all completely normal. From that moment on, our trip changed. I determined to meet as many people as I could and soak up every opportunity available. Every single moment from that point on was better than the next. As we went to various parties, classes, meetings, etc. Lora, Evelyn, and I looked at each other completely stunned: “Did that really just happen? ” “OH MY GOSH how cool was that?! ” “What else could possibly be better than what we just did?”  These became our catch phrases of the trip. Every moment surpassing the next.

There are two types of icing on this rather delicous, decadent, and extremely large cake(mmmm…):

1. The friends I made. I met so many amazing and talented people from all over the country. I was amazed at the sincerity and openness of each person I came to know.

2. Photographer’s unite: An early morning gathering of Christain photographers on Wednesday morning to worship Jesus Christ and encourage each other in our businesses.

I am so grateful to have been able to go on this trip and the opportunities that came because of it. Once again, I have never been so sure of something I wanted to do and the certainty of God’s hand in my life. I am in awh.

Here are some pictures taken with my iphone:

The image on the left is [B]ecker photographing me. He held a shoot and did 100 head shots in an hour.

So we were playing the slot machines and had NO IDEA what we were doing.  Angela works at MGM and hung out with us for a little bit showing us the ropes. She was a blast!

This last image was taken by Liana. These are the photographers who gathered together for Photographer’s Unite!

As I sit here at the Las Vegas airport, I feel peace. Peace of knowing I am in God’s hands. Peace to know where I want my business to go. Peace and awh of how wonderful these past 4 days have been.

I came to Vegas for a workshop, and left with new friends and new perspective for photography beyond anything I could have ever imagined. There will most definitely be more posts to come about this trip, but for now, here’s a sneak peek of a wedding I shot last Saturday. Drew and Kysha you are amazing.

Last week I was in Charlotte for the Project Go, Give Hope Charity Event. The event was held at Chima Brazilian Steakhouse, where local businesses partnered to raise money for projects around the world to fight poverty.

Chima is an absolutely beautiful restaurant right in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. The environment alone makes you feel like a million bucks. As the stage as being set for the nights events, I looked around and took it all in. The warm ambiance of the restaurant, the floor to ceiling windows looking out into the city, the cool people that were setting up sound and lights which to them, was just another night on the town. To me, I had finally arrived for something cool. A reason to get dressed up.

The heart of Project Go is to raise awareness to some of the poorest and remote civilizations around the world and to DO something about it. They have projects lined up to which the proceeds from the night will fund. The event consisted of fabulous food from Chima, a fashion show produced by Revolution and raffle give-aways. Halogen Tv was there to document the whole thing and is currently putting together a short feature on the night.

Here are a few pictures from the night:
