I met Mark and Abigail last week. We spent the evening exploring Piedmont Park, discovering several new sides I had never seen. The weather was great, the birds were chirping, people were picnicking, love was in the air. Smiles were had by all. Mark couldn’t keep his hands…or lips :) off Abigail. It’s not hard to see why. She’s GORGEOUS.

Mark and Abigail are getting married next weekend and I am so excited to document their special day. They have some serious wedding plans and I can’t wait to photograph it all go down.

Here are some of my favorite images. They made my job easy and were willing to shoot anyplace, anywhere, anyway I could find. Here they are, WORKING.IT.OUT.

It’s a love story. Their friends insisted on them meeting. E-harmony matched them together. hmm…a little meant to be? April decided to go along with friends one weekend to meet this Nick she had been hearing about and matched up with. Since that weekend last May, they have been inseperable.

I have known Nick since I was a kid. We were in the same youth group at church and shared our first jobs, along with all of our friends, at Chick-fil-a. We ran that place. For real. It was awesome going to work and hanging out with your friends. Now Nick has been titled our “most successful friend.”  He flys F16 planes in the Air Force. He’s pretty cooollll. April is a dance teacher.  Its a case of the ultimate guy and girly jobs. The quarterback and the head cheerleader(not them, just for reference), the fighter pilot and ballet teacher.

Nick was scheduled to leave for Iraq on May 11, so the weekend before we decided to shoot their engagement session. The plan was for Nick and April to wed when he returned in September. When I met up with them that day, they casually mentioned they secretly GOT MARRIED the day before! What?!?!?

They met. They knew. They got engaged. A few weeks later they married. It fits. Just like they do.

This engagement turned wedding shoot falls really close to my heart. I am so happy for you Nick and glad you knew to snatch up a girl like April. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for the two of you.

I’ve been streaming Escalate 2010 live online where the creme de la creme of photographers have been speaking the past couple of days. I couldn’t go out to California to watch it in person, but was completely excited when I found out they would be offering it online for FREE. So even now I am sitting on the couch in work out clothes. I just finished a low fat double fudge brownie ice cream cone…oh yessssss.

The wheels are turning. New ideas are brewing. I am continually learning everything I can. My notes from the conference are intertwined with new ideas jotted down for my business.

Jerry Ghionis blew me away. For real. It really hit home for me when he said, ” You don’t have to be the best. All you have to do is be better than last week.”

Now that the conference is over and since I’m already dressed for it, I’m off to the gym(to work off the ice cream). But first, here’s a sneak peek of a recent engagement shoot I did.

JAVAID FAMILY

May 11, 2010

She emailed me on a Wednesday, hoping to schedule a session for her and her husband, Binu’s 5 year anniversary that weekend. She was so sweet I was hoping we could make it work. Soon. That Sunday morning, I met Lubna and her family at Suwanee Town Park.

Lubna is so gracious. When I met her, I instantly felt at ease and welcomed. Binu is the same, very calm and kind. Together, they are a heart warming family with 2 adorable children, Zaki and Asim.

Zaki is a hoot. He absolutely REFUSED to look at my camera. Like REFUSED. I put the camera down and he would look at me, I pick the camera up…complete and total AVOIDANCE. I have shot with children before and usually have a few tricks up my sleeve that work. Zaki wasn’t having any of it. What he doesn’t know is that I think it made for some really great pictures. You’ll see below.

Binu and Lubna, I had a great time with your family. Thanks for sticking with me through the heat and sweat…and for being willing to entertain my crazy ideas and making you walk everywhere.

Here are a few of my favorites:

We went over to a fire station to try and WOW Zaki. I secretly hoped it would help him forget about my camera. What a cutie! I LOVE these next 2 pictures.

The next wow idea was to play in the fountains a little bit. It worked!I couldn’t choose a favorite out of this next set of images so I decided to post them all. Now a little Asim love.

Lubna, FYI you’re beautiful.  I can’t put my finger on it, but for some reason I absolutely love this one.
