As I was going through the edits from my last wedding, I found a few pictures that made me stop and smile. Images that make me wonder what on earth brides must think of me. But made me smile none the less. Here are a few behind the scene images captured by Angelina.

Sometimes, you just gotta get the shot! As I said in Sue’s wedding post, she was the most calm and easy going bride. When I explained to her that I was going to hover above her head and take pictures, she kindly obliged and let me go for it.

This one really made me laugh. Yep that’s me in my own world!

I got really excited when I saw this wall.  I was in love with it.

To the right of Tina in the image below, there was a huge nest of some sort. It was freaky. Tina was a little scared to stand near it and I don’t blame her. I am glad she did though because she worked.it out.F.I.E.R.C.E Ooh la la loved the light.

I liked the moodiness of this one.

PAYING IT FORWARD

August 24, 2010

I was in a frenzy last week as I relied on my GPS to navigate me to the first Atlanta Smug Meeting. This was especially exciting because I had been waiting for a Smug to launch in Atlanta and a respected photographer and new friend, Liana was speaking. I was running late, as usual, and it was 6:30 which meant traffic. In Atlanta, rush hour lasts from 3:00 in the afternoon until 7:00pm. Really…there is traffic all.the.time, whether it be at 11 at night or 9am on a Saturday morning. ALWAYS. I hate traffic. Arghhh. But that’s a different post.

Following the GPS route, I pulled up to the toll booth on 400, and grabbed my wallet to get my $.50 toll. The panic began to creep in. I didn’t have any money. I didn’t even have a penny in my wallet. Surely I had change in my car so I popped open my 2 default change storing compartments and…nothing. NOTHING! Rather than FREAK OUT, I remained calm and pulled up to the line that was titled CASHIER. As I pulled up to the nice, beautiful, pretty, amazing (and any other positive thought I could think of) woman, I handed her my credit card. Like I did that all the time, no big deal, just run the $.50 fee on my credit card please, thank you! She looked at me. With that look. The you idiot look. My easy breezy I do this all the time facade melted…and I crumbled. “I don’t have ANY money I explained. Can you please please please just charge it to my card? What happens if I can’t pay? Can I get an I.O.U? Riiggghhttt an I.O.U, I’m sure they give those all the time. She interjected mid sentence and I caught my breath. Then she told me that if I didn’t have any cash, they would charge my credit card. $25.50 for the toll fee. That’s twenty.five.dollars.and.fifty.cents. What!?!?! Oh sweet.baby.Jesus. I did NOT want to pay an extra $25. I don’t even like 400…that’s right I don’t like the road. I try to avoid it whenever I can and the one time I decide to take it this happens. Pfft… I am never driving this road again. I’ll show it!

I felt like an idiot. I looked in my rear view mirror and yes yes, I was in fact the person holding up the line. My face must of been bright red. The woman at the booth began talking to someone behind me and lifted up her hand in a wave to confirm she heard correctly. This sweet, beautiful, amazing, pretty woman looked at me and said, “The car behind you is going to pay your toll.” Rather than say thank you and move forward, I decided to open my mouth,”So you’re going to let me go through?” That’s right I essentially asked her if someone else paying my toll equated to her letting me go through the booth. I am way good at sticking my foot in my mouth. She looked at me, gave me a oh sweet child smile and pressed the magic button that lifts up the gate. I hoisted my body up out of my window as much as I could to tell the car behind me thank you. Geez the line was REALLY long now. I couldn’t see in the reflection of their windshield, but raised my hand in complete appreciation, hopped back into my seat and drove through the gate, exhaling a huge sigh of relief. Completely and utterly grateful for such a small gesture. I began to think as I continued my route to the Smug meeting- If I was that car behind me, what would my reaction have been? Would I have been so generous with something so small?

Being completely and embarassingly honest, I would not have. I would have grumbled and complained that there was an idiot in front of me and they should know they have to pay a toll and if they can’t its their fault they are getting charged so much and they should really get out of MY way because I have places to be. Really? REALLY. This reality hurt. A lot. And it was a defining moment. A moment where I could go on with life as normal OR I could learn from what was just revealed to me about myself and make a change. So I am making a change.

In an effort to pay it forward, my first step is to offer it on this blog. I am going to give a free photo session away. This session includes 1 hour of shooting time and the DVD of edited images. You don’t have to follow me on Twitter, like my Facebook page or write me a really sweet note telling me how much you like my work (although all of those things would be nice :) ). Just simply leave a comment below and tell me what kind of session you would like. Any kind of session you want- family, senior, anniversary, maternity, newborn, band, portfolio, etc. Spread the word! If you don’t need a session, use this opportunity to enter someone you know who would like one. The winner will be picked at random on September 7.

Kinny and Sue wanted a small, intimate wedding with family and friends. That was the most important. They had a slide show created that included images from every guest at the wedding. EVERYONE. They had bio’s created about every guest so that each person could get to know each other and their connection to Kinny and Sue. Why? Because that’s what Sue and Kinny are about. Family. It was obvious throughout the day that their family and friends felt the same way about them. Included, Involved, and so so happy for the new bride and groom. Kinny and Sue have been together for 11 years and as you will see in these images, they are very much in love. It is a genuine, magnetic love that each person hopes for in their lifetime.

From the moment I arrived to Sue’s house, I felt the warm and fuzzies. Sue kept checking on me and my needs to make sure I was ok. That’s just how Sue is, caring. She was the most calm bride I have ever seen and as a result, the day went flawlessly. Sue and Kinny, I hope you are enjoying your biking trip! Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your day. I am absolutely honored and you have made and impression on me for life.

The day began at Sue’s house where hair sylist Brad Westmoreland and make up artist Alyson from Authentic Beauty worked their magic. We then headed to All Saints’ Episcopal Church. The reception was held at Piedmont Driving Club where Lethal Rhythms rocked the music. Many thanks to Evie and Angelina who cam along with me to help document the day.

Angelina took this shot. I luuuvvvveeeddd the light. I’ll admit, I was completely jealous when I saw these 2 images Angelina shot. On the way to the ceremony! Sue and Kinny make a dashingly good looking couple. Notice the way he looks at her. This is the look of LOVE.

With any post, there is always something I just can’t choose between to post. This time, it’s the ring shots. Here’s one in black and white. And another in color. First dance. They know how to have fun.

Another look of love. Evie shot this image of everyone during the first dance. I love all the reactions! While all the grown ups were inside, this is what the kids were up to. Dohrean’s (the ringbearer) moment.

WEDDING SNEAK PEEK

August 16, 2010

This past Saturday I shot a fabulous wedding in Atlanta. Here is a little peek of what’s in store.

From the moment we arrived for Lauren and Elliott’s wedding, fun was to be had…by all. As I introduced myself to Lauren, her family, and bridesmaids, I instantly felt as though I was just one of the girls hanging out. Then I met the groom and groomsmen, and  instantly felt like I was in a comedy show. And at the reception, when it all came together, it was a BLAST.

I told Lora I was jealous. Several times throughout the day in fact. Jealous she was shooting such an awesome wedding. Jealous she had such an awesome bride, groom, wedding party and family. Jealous for all the details. JEALOUS.

As a second shooter, you don’t often get the chance to really connect with a family. I was so grateful to Lora for inviting me to come along and it was sweet icing in top of a sugary cake when I met the wedding party and family. They were so kind to me and I appreciate their generousity very much.

Here are a few from the day:

The wedding dress and the reception dress.

Chanel is Lauren’s favorite perfume so it was only right to have it’s own picture.

I took these shoe shots while Lora was photographing the bride and I love how they turned out. As usual, I couldn’t pick just one.

The frosty pink glasses drew me to this table.

For these first dance shots, I decided to be a little risky and I turned off my flash. I waited for the bride and groom to move under the light and I LOVE the outcome.

Sharon called me and warned me. Her granddaughter was going to be difficult. She was extremely camera shy and essentially said good luck getting good shots. So we collaborated on ways to make Samantha as comfortable as possible in front of the camera. The idea? A TEA PARTY. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I arrived for the shoot early to spend some time getting to know Samantha and allowing her to build a little bit of trust with me before I pulled out my huge black camera. Only when I arrived, she was not at all what I expected. She was warm, inviting and full of life. Oh and absolutely ADORABLE. I relished the time I had with her. And when her daddy arrived from work. Well her whole world lit up. It was easy to see the bond that these two have. Together, they are something special.

We started off the shoot with a tea party. One I was excited to be a part of. :)

Look at those blue eyes. Samantha makes the best faces. You’ll see.
Yea, I told you about those faces.

I put this one up because it is so whimsical and childlike. Samantha was dancing on her stage.

My favorite of the day. I think this was around the time we mentioned POPSICLES.

So CUTE!

Father and daughter singing together. This was so much fun. They actually GOT IN THE POOL!
