Today’s family session is of my good friends Marty and Bethany and their son Ethan. We met at Decatur Sqaure and hung out for a couple of hours. Afterwards, dinner of course. It was a wonderful Saturday spent with friends.

Here are a few from the session.

Parkour Parkour!

My favorite of the day. So stinkin cute.

Notice Ethan in the background. :)    There was a nearby party going on and Bethany spotted this booth. She had the idea for the following picture, but I was too chicken to ask. After delibiration she eventually made her way over and asked if we could use the kissing booth. I love it!

A MOMENT IN TIME

November 25, 2010

One little girl, confined to the space of 2 airplane seats, occupied by mom and dad. Mom trying to amuse her. Singing a song, playing a game, looking at books and magazines. Dad, fervently studying papers in his hand. Diagrams of sort. One read Reserve Pack guide. Another, Rip Cord. Ah… Military notes. He read them over and over. His little girl interrupting every so often. Vying for his attention. He would look at her and smile. Patient. Loving. He then went back to his sheets. Quietly repeating each step aloud. Hand gestures signaling he got it, then he would move on to the next. After a few moments he handed the sheets to his wife. She would quiz him.

Eventually the little girl fell asleep. Sprawled out stomach down across her mom and dad’s legs. So peaceful. Now, mom could rest. She closed her eyes and fell asleep, tucked under her husbands arm. Wrapped around her, in complete security. The plane was dark, except for one dimly lit light. It pointed on his papers. Little girl across his legs. Arm around his wife. Papers in the other hand, still studying. It was a moment that touched me. So beautiful.

This family sat next to me on the plane to Houston. As I observed this moment. I wish desperately I could take a picture. For me, to remember how beautiful love is. For them, to have to remember this time in their lives. Probably difficult as he goes through training. None the less loving. As I remembered I had my camera in my bag and thought about grabbing it and asking to take a picture, the cabin lights came on…moment gone. I wanted to tell this man how much I respected him. How beautiful his family was. To encourage him to keep pushing. But I was chicken. I decided to write about it so I would never forget that moment.

Today, I’m thankful for love. So full, so inspiring, so comforting. Today, I celebrate the loved ones around me. Happy Thanksgiving.

She pulled me aside at her sisters wedding and asked “Do you photograph elopements? Ken and I, we want to elope together in the mountains.” I told her of course and honestly didn’t know if she would really contact me again. We became Facebook friends and I casually followed her status updates and pictures. You see, at Michelle’s sister Dana’s wedding, I fell in love with her family. They are so kind and welcoming and my gosh they know how to have a good time! I feel so blessed to be a part of such a special day, and I truly love when I get to keep up with everyone.

Well, a few weeks ago, Michelle did contact me. I was elated as I read the email…we are eloping! On a Monday! Can you come? Shortly after… another email. Change of plans! We are having a small ceremony with family on Sunday…Can you come? I definitely wanted to be there. And the family coming? That was the icing on the cake.

The ceremony took place in Highlands, NC in a beautiful suite. The dress, the rings, the shoes, the family, a beautiful bride, dapper groom and warm weather to boot. The day went flawlessly.

Michelle, thank you so much for contacting me. As always I am so honored to photograph you and your family. Ken, thanks for being such a good sport. You will see in the pictures, you really were born for this :)

I just need to insert here that Old Edwards in is a photographers dream. There were so many beautiful locations with fantastic light. I thought I was in heaven. Michelle and Ken were troopers. Heels and all they stuck with me and were game for whatever the entire time we shot.

ARGH. Today I had this blog post prepared. I was going to share a story that I am sure everyone is just dying to know about and how I get attached to people. Trust me it was good. I was going for tears. :) I had saved the draft and when I went to post the entire site went down. Photos, fantastic story, tears, lost. I tried to re-write it. Now I have a little thing called writers block and if I stare at my computer screen any longer trying to remember I may get a migraine. I kid…its all good.

I photographed Brooke and her family last year and I am so happy that they contacted me again this year. I love the relationships that have been built with my clients and getting to see them grow and change as time goes on. Brooke and Shannon have 2 adorable little girls and they absolutely shine on camera. Here are a few from the day:

To say I am excited would be an understatement. It’s more like jump in your chair and scream for an amazing opportunity OR become a hot mess because I am so incredibly nervous. Nervous because there are a couple of things in life I hate. It has nothing to do with anyone else, just me and my kellyisms. Last weekend, I tackled one of these things head on. I am working on a project with Craig Obrist and cant wait to see what his creative genius has put together.

There are a number of things that were needed to make this happen and are as follows:

Craig Obrist: check

Gorgeous couple that are amazing and super patient and willing to let me reek havoc: check

Awesome location: check

Full noon sun that makes it hard to find shooting locations: check (that was a joke)

Super nice girls in a nearby clothing store for wardrobe change: check

Free parking on Sundays: check

Help of  Evie Perez: check

Here are a few of the pictures from the shoot:

I really love this picture. Look at the light! That’s noon light!

Oh Jennifer…Go on with your hot self.

So I saw this Gucci ad about a year ago and I was inspired. Here is my take on it. More to come from this awesome engagement session.

FALL FAVORITES

November 2, 2010

Its finally cool here in Georgia and after shopping the past few months for fall clothes, I was overly excited to put on my boots and sweaters at the slightest drop in temperature. I love the seasonal changes and of course the fashion that comes with it. Here are a few of my favorite things for fall 2010:

1. What is that mess on the top left corner? Well that is the smoreiffic and caloric fest of Golden Graham Bars. I had never had one before and when a friend handed her homemade goodie to me I was in heaven. I recommend these to everyone.

2. Sweaters, leggings and boots: My favorite combination. I will be wearing these 3 pieces pretty much 6 out of 7 days in the week. When I am really feeling fancy, I’ll even through on a belt around the sweater. This look is so easy, comfortable, and uber stylish that its my favorite look to rock. I actually own the boots in the picture and they are ridiculously comfortable. I LOVE them.

3.  Starbucks: Its cold! Get a Starbucks. Any excuse will work. Nothing like that white cup in your hand on a cool fall day.

4. Loreal Double Extend Mascara: My friend Jennifer raved about this mascara…and then she let me try it. I have never been much of a mascara girl- but once I tried it, I had to go out and get my own. IMMEDIATELY.

5.  Faux leather Jackets, or minus the leather Express would say. These are so cute with dresses or even leggings. It’s what I am wearing on the 7th day of the week.

6. Fedora Hat: I don’t have one yet…but I really really want one. I have seen people wear them with just jeans and a t-shirt and it just adds a little something to the look to make it look more stylish.  I will own one soon.

7. Silver Nail Polish: It’s the new black nail polish. I think I like it even better because I have it on now and no one has asked me if I am going goth or celebrating Halloween.

So there you have it: My favorite things. Feel free to add your own in the comments!
