In 2 weeks I turn 30. Oh wait maybe you missed it…that’s THIRTY. As in 3-0!  With the new year rolling around and a significant increase in age, I may or may not have had some emotional meltdowns. If I hunker down and try to set goals for the year, my mind starts running before I can even catch up. OMG I am about to be 30. What did I want to do with my life before I turned 30? Am I where I want to be? I was supposed to be a millionaire by now. Oh wow, now my body is going to fall apart. I should probably go to the doctor more to make sure. And then before I know what hit me, the tears start falling.

Okay this has only happened once. And I feel a lot better now. Especially because in order to defeat 30, I planned a trip to the Caribbean so I can at least turn 30 somewhere new and amazing. This is when I plan to compose my thoughts, goals and dreams for the year. As they stand now, I imagine them to be grand, a little out there, and bigger than anything I could ever accomplish myself. This year will be a year of taking risks. After all, I will be 30…why not?!

Some of my goals have begun to take shape already. The first being a bright yellow email I received Monday morning. Kelly Lane Photography is a Bride’s choice award winner for 2012! I initially thought this must have been sent to the wrong person, but once my name appeared in the image, I conceded…and graciouslly prepared a thank you speech. Kidding.

The next exciting announcement is that I now have a promo video! This has been over a year in the making…and I have held onto it a little bit, just because I am shy about it. It took several years for me to allow a picture of myself to be taken. This takes it to a whole new level.

I am indebted to Craig Obrist  for creating this for me and dedicating hours of time to it in an already super tight schedule. Also thank you Jennifer and Ryan Robinson, Jennifer, and Aaron for modeling. Ya’ll make me look good!

I present to you the Cole family and their cutie patootie son, Preston. He totally hammed up the camera and it was a blast just waiting to see what he would do next.

Thank you so much Melissa for the opportunity to photograph your beautiful family!

On to Preston…See what I mean?!

One of the best parts about being a wedding photographer is when you get to watch the families grow. Last year, I photographed Ken and Michelle’s gorgeous wedding at Old Edwards Inn. Recently, they had their first child, Grayson. He will melt your heart.

Here are a few pictures from our session. Without a doubt, the last one is my favorite…and it made it on their Christmas card. :)

When Lyndie told me that she was good friends with Jenn and Billy, there was no doubting my excitement to meet her and her family. You see Billy and Jenn are amazing. They are the most kind, thoughtful and joyful people to be around. So when someone is a good friend, you know they have to be pretty amazing as well. This theory does not fail. It proves me right every.single.time.  And the Carneal family? Well they are pretty amazing. Within moments of meeting them, I felt as though I had known them for years. Lyndie is the most warm and inviting person. Her husband Chris, genuine and enthusiastic. Their children, beautiful. Simply put, the Carneal family is magnetic. To be around them is to be around love.

It all makes sense, really. Chris and Lyndie are the founders of Boosterthon, a unique school fundraising company that incorporates fitness, leadership, and character development. Traits this family undoubtedly values and has.

I had a wonderful time hanging out and getting to know this family. Check out a few pictures form the day:

This is the 3rd year in a row I have photographed this family. Sara is a dear friend and it is so amazing to watch their family grow and document it with pictures. A couple of months ago, the newest addition became part of the family, a little boy named Xavier.

Here are a few from the day:

It’s the season of portrait sessions! There are plenty more to come, but  I wanted to start off with my best friend Jessica and her beautiful family. You can see their session from last year here. Enjoy!

While taking pictures, the kids reached the point that most kids do, where they are done and need a break. This is a classic moment while we were shooting just Joe and Jess, that the kids decided they wanted to be in the picture too. This is one of my favorites because I feel like it is so true to life. :)

We met in small group a few years ago. Billy and Jenn were only dating at the time and talking about when  and what their future held. Fast forward a couple of years and they are now married and expecting their first child, Zander.

Jenn, I have enjoyed getting to know you over our lunch and dinner dates. I am so happy for you and Billy and cannot wait to see little Zander!

THE SHOOT

July 8, 2011

All I have to say is I have the BEST clients.

You can find out more about The Shoot here and here.

Here are some of my favorites from each session I shot:

Wright family:

Danielle and Patrick:

The Davis family:

Flanagan Family:

The Cain girls:

Like most things, it started with an idea. I knew of someone I wanted to help. Someone that had impacted my life and many others. As I brainstormed ways to help out, I realized there was a tool at my disposal that involved simply donating my time. Photography. As I shared the idea with my close friend Jessica, she had similar sentiments. We wanted to help and we felt others would too.

So began the planning of The Shoot. Seven Atlanta area photographers offering their time and talent, a close group of friends rallying together, and several other volunteers to help make it happen.

Thank you to the photographers, friends, volunteers, and families who were a part of  The Shoot and helped make it a success!

Here are a few images from behind the scenes of the day:

The glamourous photoshoots…complete with trash can.

Jazz hands!

I tried to be like Will and have a cool hat.

Getting ready for pictures. The photographers (that were still there).

The team that put The Shoot together, volunteered their time and helped make it happen.

The following sequence of images had me laughing for about a minute straight…
