Like most things, it started with an idea. I knew of someone I wanted to help. Someone that had impacted my life and many others. As I brainstormed ways to help out, I realized there was a tool at my disposal that involved simply donating my time. Photography. As I shared the idea with my close friend Jessica, she had similar sentiments. We wanted to help and we felt others would too.

So began the planning of The Shoot. Seven Atlanta area photographers offering their time and talent, a close group of friends rallying together, and several other volunteers to help make it happen.

Thank you to the photographers, friends, volunteers, and families who were a part of  The Shoot and helped make it a success!

Here are a few images from behind the scenes of the day:

The glamourous photoshoots…complete with trash can.

Jazz hands!

I tried to be like Will and have a cool hat.

Getting ready for pictures. The photographers (that were still there).

The team that put The Shoot together, volunteered their time and helped make it happen.

The following sequence of images had me laughing for about a minute straight…

It’s official, I live inside the Perimeter or ITP as the cool Atlantans like to call it. Technically I am just on the right side of being ITP, but really I just tell people I’m ITP. It makes me seem way cooler. My life has been consumed with several things recently, the 2 primary being moving and organizing The Shoot.

I have partnered with the non-profit organization Project Go and local Atlanta photographers to offer discounted photo sessions for $50! All proceeds from The Shoot will benefit a family in need. This is such a great cause and I am so happy to see it all come together.

If you would like more information or to book a session check out theshootevent.com.

See you May 22nd!

As 2010 winds down, I have one last family session to post. Craig and his wife Unchong are good friends and Craig is a fellow photographer. As we looked at our schedules to try and mark a date for their session, the outcome looked bleak. Eventually, we found an opening that worked for all of us…in December. You can see their family session from last year here, also shot in December. Craig, I am game for scheduling a 2011 session now, maybe in let’s say…September?

Craig and Unchong are expanding their family and are expecting a  new baby in February. I’m just going to throw it out there that their little girl Emma has some serious model potential. Here is the Obrist Family:

GRANT PARK: DAVIS FAMILY

December 16, 2010

When we booked the session, we knew it was a gamble. A December shoot? Sure! Why not?! I have talked about Georgia weather before… IT BE CRAZY! You never know what you will get. I made a deal with mother nature, as long as it didn’t rain we’ll be good. Apparently I didn’t make a good enough deal. Mother nature laughed in my face. I do not like her jokes. There was no rain, but it by far has to have been the coldest day of the year. It was definitely the coldest shoot I’ve ever had. I mean come on, the day before was WARM!

Shockingly…I survived the shoot. The Davis Family was absolutely amazing. They rolled with the cold, jumped in the car when it became unbearable, and got right back out with smiles on their faces. I was blown away by them. They are one of the sweetest families I have photographed and I’m so glad they were game on that very cold day.

Here are a few of my favorites:

This may be my favorite.

A little football…

This is what future boys have to look forward to. :)

2nd favorite

I take it back, this is my favorite.

Today’s family session is of my good friends Marty and Bethany and their son Ethan. We met at Decatur Sqaure and hung out for a couple of hours. Afterwards, dinner of course. It was a wonderful Saturday spent with friends.

Here are a few from the session.

Parkour Parkour!

My favorite of the day. So stinkin cute.

Notice Ethan in the background. :)    There was a nearby party going on and Bethany spotted this booth. She had the idea for the following picture, but I was too chicken to ask. After delibiration she eventually made her way over and asked if we could use the kissing booth. I love it!

ARGH. Today I had this blog post prepared. I was going to share a story that I am sure everyone is just dying to know about and how I get attached to people. Trust me it was good. I was going for tears. :) I had saved the draft and when I went to post the entire site went down. Photos, fantastic story, tears, lost. I tried to re-write it. Now I have a little thing called writers block and if I stare at my computer screen any longer trying to remember I may get a migraine. I kid…its all good.

I photographed Brooke and her family last year and I am so happy that they contacted me again this year. I love the relationships that have been built with my clients and getting to see them grow and change as time goes on. Brooke and Shannon have 2 adorable little girls and they absolutely shine on camera. Here are a few from the day:

LIFESTYLE: ASHLEY+MARIAH

October 5, 2010

First off, I just need to say…Ashley is beast. I met her in the Synergy mentorship program at our church and I was lucky enough to get partnered with her. She is a vibrant young lady that is driven, incredibly smart, and beautiful all the way through. This is her senior year of high school so we decided to run to a nearby park for a mini shoot. Her little sister Mariah came along and they rocked it out. Thank you Ashley for teaching me what is hip and beast. Yes…she taught me the word beast- it means cool thankyouverymuch.

Here are a few form the session. I love this first picture because there is so much sisterly love going on.

Uhm Ashley do you know how FIERCE you look in this picture? Seriously.Fierce.

Mariah, you are so darn cute and sweet. You’re beautiful.

I am sooooooooo excited to announce that my webpage is officially live!

I have been holding out for a website design that fits my style and matches my current brand. When Promise Tangeman released style groups and I saw her designs. I DIED. It was perfect. I immediately purchased the design and have been working diligently in Showit, to make the site my own. There are some cool changes that will be made soon, but for now check it out!

The webpage is at www.kellylanephotography.com. While there is a link to the blog on the site, the address to access the blog directly is www.kellylaneblog.com.

Here is a little preview. Let me know what you think!

I met Sara a few years ago. We worked together and were friendly, but it wasn’t until about a year into the work relationship that we begged the question: Why don’t we talk more? Since that time we have become great friends. We  meet monthly for girl talk over some great mexican food.

Sara and Ben were my first family session. We met last year on a crazy hot day and stayed in a confined area to avoid the smoldering heat. It’s funny to look back on that session and see how far I have come and how much their family has grown. You can view it here

Sara’s family is adorable. Here are a few from the session:

LIFESTYLE SESSION: PRICE FAMILY

September 13, 2010

Jessica is my best friend. I know I know it sounds a little cheesy and like I’m 16. Not that there is anything wrong with 16. Just that when I was 16 my bff changed every week- even though Jess and I were friends when I was 16. She was my bff then too. and…inhale.

She’s that friend that you have a special connection with. That friend that will always be in your life. No matter what. That friend where no matter how long its been or whats going on in life, we just connect.

At the beginning of the year, I shot newborn pictures of Joe and Jessica’s daughter, Hannah. You can view this post here. My gosh Hannah has grown. As promised in the post, their son, Jeremiah would make his debut on the blog as well. Last weekend, we met for a few family pictures. I spent way longer than a normal shoot with them, but that’s just because I couldn’t get enough of their family. There are a ton of pictures below, and this is the edited version.

Click here for more images and a slide show.

Enjoy and Happy Monday!

First shot of the day.

I love this one of Joe. It just epitomizes father.

Now a little Joe and Jess montage.

WORK.IT.OUT. Jess.

After a quick wardrobe change, Jess pulled out lollypops. I loved this idea.

To me, this picture reminds me of childhood joy. I love the look on Jeremiah’s face.
